From Merriam-Webster:
trope: 1b: a common or overused theme or device
Used in a sentence: The peppy, fresh-faced youth who encourages the jaded but brilliant master to come out of retirement in the interest of a noble cause is a trope of popular cinema, seen in movies from Happy Gilmore to Star Wars.
The above evidence acknowledged, this trope, when done lovingly as in That’s the Name of the Tune, can still be totally satisfying. Just try and avoid thinking the following feel-good sentence: Damn, this hard-luck codger can still play the clarinet!
Name of the Tune is from the Brothers Dastoli, who make shorts of all stripes (and tropes) in Los Angeles.
